Psychologists usually use them to assess someone’s personality characteristics and emotional functioning. They’ve also been used to identify any kind of a thought disorder, especially when patients are reluctant to talk about their thinking processes openly.

Please note that an inkblot test ALONE cannot decipher someone’s personality, emotional functioning, or thinking process.
